We took Caltrain from San Jose to San
Francisco and reached at 10:15 am. From the station we took muni bus (a bus which is operated similar to tram) to reach Union
Square. Union Square is the place where major sight seeing tour company
are located and operate. There are many sightseeing hop on hop off tour operators and each of them charge different rate. We negotiated with most of them and finally decided to go with Big Bus
company which operates bus for every 30 min. It would be good to opt for day tour in the summer. Since the sun sets at about 8 pm. We were given a tour map and ear phone. The bus takes you around 15 points of
interest and you can hop-off at any place and take your time hop-on another bus from the nearest point. We were lucky to get seat at the top floor of the open air top double Decker bus.The bus is provided with
recorded comments for each place of interest.
Tips:- Always plan ahead where to hop-off.
- Try getting seat in the open air top during summer.
- While sitting and enjoying the view from the open top ensure that you have a chin strap caps if needed.
We had the view of Asian Art Museum, Civic centre, Alama square, California Academy of Science from the bus ;). We planned to hop off at only 5 of the places, as we started late and had only 6 hours to see all the place. Our first destination was Golden Gate Bridge.
Golden Gate Bridge:
The
suspension bridge is the icon of San Francisco. Travelling across the Golden Gate bridge
in open air made us exciting and enthralling. Wondering if the bridge is made of gold or have golden colour? hmmm.. no, this is painted with orange colour to add beauty and
augment the bridge during fog. One can walk or cycle through the bridge. From vista point one can enjoy the
Pacific Ocean, San Francisco Bay and Alcatrez island.
Palace of Fine Arts:
When we arrived here we wondered whether we transformed to Greek and
Rome. People urging to go for Greek can quench their thirst to some
extent by visiting here. A beautiful Romanesque architecture, its
colonnade, the artificial lagoon with some birds makes this place a very lovey-dovey. A clear blue sky makes this architecture building add
beauty for capturing the photos. Took a walk in the chill grass and
relaxed so much here. A must visit place in San Francisco.
Lombard Street:
Got down at Lombard street-2 and walked a few meters in the steep
road and reached the crookedest street. It has
about 8 curves and it looks good. From
there we walked all the way to Fisherman Wharf and Pier 39. A place
where the street performers are entertaining throughout the day. A place
for buying shopping.
The next without hop on views are the beautiful building of San Francisco.
Tips:
If you are starting from Pier 39, you can get the tickets with various
offer, always look for the best rate available and choose the best one. While
coming out of San Francisco International Airport go to the information
centre and collect city tour guide and other guides. Please go through
the books, it may have some offers or discount Ad.
